Upon reading Junot Diaz’s essay, “New York: Science Fiction,” I decided that the single most important sentence in the text to be:”A future that had been promised but never arrived.” The author appears to express his shock and disappointment over his low quality of life while living in “Nueva York” whereby the “Oz [he] dreamed about in the Dominican Republic” was really not anything close to reality for him nor his family. According to Diaz, both he and his Dad had the “usual” immigrant experiences of only working at “crap” jobs and living in “unwinterized” apartments. For Diaz, his fantasies of living a better life abroad were really nothing more than, well, …fantasies.

It must had been extremely hard for him, because everyone i known that is a foreigner have had a very tough time but then they succeed.
